Writing is a tool of empowerment. Writing allows us to examine ourselves and our world, explore our creative potential, share our stories, and make an impact with our ideas. We believe in creating an inclusive environment for all people where we celebrate our uniqueness and share stories as a way to build empathy and impact change. We strive to give people the opportunity to see themselves and their world represented in the literature they read as well as the chance to see their own words published.
We are committed to providing a brave space for writers to explore their creativity and to centering, celebrating, and elevating our collective voices because every person should know their voice matters here, now, and wherever their lives may take them. We believe identity work through guided exploration is the key to decolonizing our brains and combating racism.
A little about Jen: I'm Jen Vincent and I'm a Latinx writer, blogger, and educator. I write picture books, young adult novels, and personal essays. All of my writing is #ownvoices because even though I was born here in the US, my mom’s side of the family is from Guatemala. Growing up, I didn’t see myself in books (I still struggle to even today!) and my goal is for Latinx youth like me to see themselves in books and to also see themselves in the author who writes those books but at the same time for all readers to see this as well. I have spent 19 years in the public school systems, in special education, dual language, and mainstream education, as a teacher, mentor, curriculum coordinator, tech integration specialist, and coach. In working with students, caregivers, teachers, librarians, and administrators, I know everyone deserves to be seen and it's my mission to ensure Story Exploratory is a space that not only sees people but celebrates them. Radical self love is our path to change. Learn more about me and my writing at jenvincentwrites.com.
